Mireya Zendejas
Mireya Zendejas was born and raised in Mexico City and has dedicated the past 27 years to working, researching, studying, and teaching scents. Her Mexican family was passionate about their deep cultural roots with a special interest for cooking as well as for everything that smelled good. Formally trained as a Graphic Designer, she worked as an exhibit designer in the Franz Mayer Museum in downtown Mexico City, where she fell in love with both the arts and their history. Introduced to the fragrance world in 1991, she was trained by various perfumers and became a cross category Fragrance evaluator (Scent Profiler). In the course of her career she has traveled the world, creating global fragrance profiles for multiple Fine Fragrance, Body Care and Household brands. As an enthusiastic fashionista, she shares an equal love for shoes and scents. She lives in New York City with her husband Jean Claude Delville, whom she also works with, as his muse and biggest fan, but also running the Institute, the educative arm of The Society of Scent. As head of the Institute, Mireya believes in providing guidance and in sharing knowledge and expertise. There is a natural passion to nurture and inspire conversations around scent memories and experiences: “The best moments are those where you witness someone grasp the essence of an ingredient for the first time. Fragrances have the power to transform lives; it is the greatest pleasure to unlock the door to the magical world of Scents” she says about her teaching experience.
