Fragrance Products

More than just another brand, we are an atelier of perfume masters. Founded by Frederic Jacques in 2017, we are 100% family-owned and belong to a re-emerging tradition that restores perfumery to its rightful place as an art (to the benefit of the discerning aesthete). We are guided solely by an avant-garde vision, deep internal technical mastery and a love for our art. To learn more about us, we recommend that you read Our Story and Our Manifesto.

Scent is often a subjective matter of taste. We are strong advocates of the Slow Scent movement where both the consumer and the product are given time to work together, breathe and develop a long term relationship. Our Discovery Set is a way for you to sample our fragrances in the intimacy of your own space, on your own terms, on your own time and surrounded by your chosen entourage. We have written a short vignette about how perfumer’s chose scents, we encourage you to read it!

You can choose to spray your fragrance anywhere on your skin, on your clothes or even on your accessories. Typically, the areas of the skin that leave the strongest sillage are the neck, the wrists and the hair. As for amount, we do not believe in steadfast rules, and you should feel free to spray as much as you need to feel empowered!

Our rich palette of ingredients samples the whole world and is sourced exclusively by partners who are aligned with our deep respect for nature and local growers. In order to make exceptional fragrances, we meticulously select ingredients based on beauty, not cost, as not all ingredients that share the same name are created equal. We invite you to explore some of our ingredients here.

Fragrance products are generally safe for the skin. The Fragrance Industry is regulated worldwide by The International Fragrance Association (IFRA), an organization created in 1973. IFRA establishes very strict standards for fragrance materials, limiting or prohibiting the use of ingredients, based on the findings of  The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials, Inc. (RIFM). RIFM is a non-profit corporation created in 1966 and stands as the international scientific authority for the safe use of fragrance materials. All our products are formulated to comply with the most recent IFRA standards and regulations. IFRA certificates for our products are available upon request at thesocietyofscent.com.

Though perfume allergies are relatively rare, just like with food, certain ingredients may trigger allergies in sensitive individuals with an overreactive immune system. A common misconception is that allergies come from synthetic molecules, when in fact, most allergens are found in natural essential oils. If you notice rashes on your skin when using a particular fragrance, you should either spray it exclusively on your clothes or stop using it altogether. If the allergic reaction is respiratory, common sense dictates that you stop using the product completely.
