Calamus Root

Photography and visual design by Lund x Mauviel
Olfactive Family: Woody

The root of a plant “Acorus Calamus”, aka Sweet Flag. Growing from 1 to 3 feet tall it is cultivated throughout Europe, Asia and North America and is found in wet marshy areas. Mentioned  as one of the ingredients in the holy anointing oil (Exodus 30:23) and one of the sweet scents (Cant 4:14), it was among the articles sold in the markets of Tyre (Ezekiel 27:19). It is also part of Ayurvedic, traditional Chinese, and Native American practices. Calamus root has a unique scent of wet cake dough, with a woody leathery/suede effect.
