Coriander Seeds

Olfactive Family: Spicy

Coriander, also known as Cilantro or Chinese parsley, is an annual herb in the family “Apiaceae.” It grows wild over wide areas of Western Asia, Europe and North Africa. “Coriandrum Sativum” seed usage goes back to Babylonian times, where it served both culinary and medical purposes. It is also mentioned in the Bible and was used in tombs of pharaohs as a symbol of eternal love. The seeds, as they are often referred to despite being botanically the fruit of the plant, smell very differently from the leaves. The essential oil, distilled from the dried fruits, smells crisp, spicy and floral with undertones of rosewood.
