Sandalwood
“Santalum Album,” originally native to India and its bordering regions, is one of the oldest and most revered perfume materials. Heavily used in traditional incense and perfume, it became endangered before being relocated to Australia where it now sustainably supplies much of the global sandalwood demand. The oil is generally steam distilled from the heartwood and roots of trees that are between 15 and 30 years old, allowing the tree enough time to accumulate the oil. Its distinctive scent is warm, smooth, delicately smoky and milky.
